View speedometer details at AmazonI have received so many comments about my Bell Spinfit Calorie Speedometer asking me if I could email them the instructions because they lost their manual and their battery died. The Bell company’s website is worthless for instruction manuals, so I have scanned mine in. The most important page is below:

These are the secret codes that you have to program into the speedometer to tell it what size wheels you have. If you get the wrong code, you end up with the wrong mileage.

  1. Thanx for the info on the settings. I know I have the manual somewhere, isn’t it always somewhere else? I have to reset it because I’ve moved it from my son’s 20″ bike to a new(used TREK I just bought him. However, I have a question. According to the manual, the setting for a 700mm x 25 wheel is 2124. I thought you just had to use the circumferunce of the wheel as the setting (700 x 3.1414 = 2198.98). I’ll go with the manula’s setting, but I’m just curious. Thanx again.

  2. Thank you SO much for putting this out here! I also lost my instruction manual and I need to replace the battery, so all the settings will reset. I had NO idea how I would figure it out. And you are right– the Bell website is useless. Thanks again!

  5. I just got 2 BELL speedometer’s and I can’t get any of them to work. All it tell’s me is the time. I have tried everything and nothing works. How do you get them to register?

  7. i have a recumbent trike and the front wheel is 16 inches, i am having a problem finding the wheel factor. not sure how to figure this out

  9. I had to replace the battery in my speedometer and discovered that I had misplaced my instruction guide. After an initial internet search, I was about to give up until I ran across you piece. I was able to feel my way through the set-up but was boggled by the tire setting. I am so glad that I found your posting and thankful that you provided the scan of your guide. Thank you.

  10. Thanx for the info… I’m resurrecting my old Genesis 18 speed ATB that was flooded up to the gooseneck after Katrina. Here it is almost 2years later and the Bell speedo, which I had given up for junk, suddenly started registering… As you and others have stated, the Bell site is great… if you want a helmet. Your efforts are appreciated more than you may ever know!

  12. Robert, I’ve never had that happen before. Sounds like yours is toast. Luckily, they’re only $20 instead of those overpriced cycling computers at $120 that don’t do anything more than the Bell SpinFit. Laura

  14. I have a Mongoose 26″ bicycle how do I know what code to use? The tire says 26 x 1.95 thanks

  18. Jack, Try moving the sensor closer to the magnet on the spokes. If that doesn’t work, check the cable to make sure there isn’t a short in the wire. Best, Laura

  22. I mistakenly bought a Bell speedometer for my mountain bike. It works, but only as long as I keep it under about 17mph. Once I go over that, it seems to lose its place and read 0 until I slow back down again. Any idea what causes that?

  23. Thanks for the help! I’ve been trying to set my speedometer for a while. I got it at a garage sale, and the guy said that it was really simple. He said that I didn’t need the book because it was self-explanitory. I foud out that he was very wrong. Thanks again.

  27. okay. i had this on my bike and then i took it off b/c the computer itself went through the wash in my pocket so i took it all off. so now that its dried out and i got a new battery for it i cant seem to get the code right. i have a 16/2.25 and i used every 16 inche code. none worked.

  28. Andrew (June 9), I had a similar issue on my mountain bike when off road. Turns out the extreme jarring/brush occasionally moved the sensor away from the magnet. After adjustment, fine. Thanks for the site!

  30. I have a 700 38c size tire.how do I figure out what number to enter into my odomter.My odometer is registering too fast because I can’t figure out the right number to enter.Can you give me the formula if my tire size is not in the manual

  35. Yes, LT, the battery is an LR43. They can be bought at Radio Shack for around $5.00.

  39. Just bought a cannondale off craigslist with one of this guy still installed! Thanks so much for the info. Is there any way to manually turn it off? I’d like to do that rather than leaving it sit for 5 minutes.
