Suunto Lumi: Good Try, Still Useless

Suunto Lumi TerraI have to give Suunto some credit. At least they’re trying to make a women’s digital watch that isn’t ugly. This is a pretty good looking watch for a digital, unfortunately, it’s not the kind of watch that will help me. I don’t need an altimeter, barometer, four languages or a compass. If I did need those things, I would wear the big ugly Casio digital that does all that for half the price. I don’t need my watch to be beautiful when I’m hiking.

I need my watch to be beautiful all the other times of my day: walking around town, going to work, having dinner with friends. I want a pretty digital watch that will tell me the time and date on the face. I want an elegant digital watch that will time me with a stopwatch and give me a countdown timer. I want a lovely digital watch that will tell me what time it is in Vegas AND back home. And I want it to be small. I KNOW the watch manufacturers can do all of this, but for some reason they don’t.

Good try, Suunto. Thanks for thinking of me. I really appreciate it. Game over, man. Try again.

  1. i don’t understand why you complain! Suunto’s Lumi does all the things you ask for. and I think the ugly one you prefer doesn’t! Game over? for whom?

  2. I don’t need the altimeter, barometer or compass. All these things are power hogs, so you end up having a watch that needs to be recharged. I don’t want to have to plug in my watch to make sure it doesn’t die on me. I already have a watch that works like that. It’s called a cell phone. Game over for Suunto on the Lumi line. Design again, please.

  3. In my opinion Suunto have done something that helps them stick out of the crowd (again!) – they are the first ones to make a really multifunctional watch for women. I actually felt bad by the fact that all those watches with cool functions are way too big for my tiny wrist simply because they are targeted to men. However, who says women are not active, do not like sports, do not care about different time zones, etc? Believe me, reading the barometer is not that complicated at all. Moreover, Suunto have made this watch extremely user-friendly. Of course, most women care more about the brand and the diamonds on their watch than about its functionalities. Not me. I am going to be among the first ones to get it – pre-ordered it already. Not only it has all the functions that I need but it looks really cool! Can’t wait! Thank you, Suunto! P.S. It’s not true that the many functions this watch has would drain the battery out a lot faster that let’s say a Swiss Army (SA) watch. I have SA Excursion and compared to my husband’s Suunto Observer that has similar functions to Lumi’s, my battery did not last much longer. Besides, you have an alarm that will tell you that your battery is dieing. Unlike my SA Excursion that just stopped one day.
